Xiamen, China — December 12 — At its third annual Eco-Day event, energy storage specialist HiTHIUM introduced what it claims is the world's first natively designed 8-hour battery energy storage solution, the ∞Power8 6.9MW/55.2MWh. Engineered from the ground up for long-duration energy storage (LDES), the system is built on a dedicated 8-hour architecture and utilizes proprietary 8-hour battery cells. The company positions it as the first solution genuinely architected for 8-hour duration, aiming to enable continuous, all-weather renewable power supply.

As grid stability and renewable utilization become priorities, 8-hour LDES is emerging as a critical industry focus. Among LDES technologies, lithium-based solutions are gaining prominence for their integration, efficiency, and stability. HiTHIUM, positioning itself as a pioneer in lithium LDES, states its latest innovation aims to strengthen lithium's cost competitiveness and accelerate its large-scale adoption in long-duration applications.

A Purpose-Built 8-Hour System: Optimized for Cost, Efficiency & Safety
The ∞Power8 is a turnkey solution configured for 8-hour, all-weather storage. Each standardized unit delivers 6.9MW/55.2MWh and integrates one medium-voltage module with eight storage modules. HiTHIUM reports optimized logistics and cabling reduce on-site construction effort, increase deployment speed by 18%, and cut land use by 23% compared to prior designs. The system is pre-configured for standalone plants, large renewable bases, and extreme environments.

The native design purportedly delivers core advantages:

  • Cost Reduction: By eliminating redundant components, system integration increases by over 10%, with efficiency gains exceeding 30%.

  • High-Efficiency Operation: Intelligent control, thermal management, and active balancing cut auxiliary power use by over 30%, improve temperature control precision by 50%, and boost response speed by 20%. The active balancing alone is estimated to save over $1 million per GWh.

HiTHIUM emphasizes multi-layer safety protection, claiming non-propagating thermal runaway and a design life exceeding 25 years.

The cell's capacity stems from proprietary ultra-thick electrode technology, which addresses challenges like electrode cracking and slow ion transport. Compared to 2-hour cells, it reduces foil and component costs by over 50%. HiTHIUM's LDES cell portfolio now includes 587Ah, 1175Ah, and 1300Ah models, with the first two already at GWh-scale shipment. Mass production for the ∞Power8 system is slated for Q4 2026.
