The 23rd China International Motorcycle Expo (CIME) opened on September 19 at Chongqing International Expo Center. As the first major industry event since the updated mandatory safety standards for e-bikes and batteries—GB43854-2024 and GB40559-2024—took effect, this year’s expo highlighted not only advanced technologies and manufacturing capabilities but also signaled new trends under the national standards.
As a core power source for electric mobility, numerous lithium battery makers gathered at the event. Among them, BAK Battery made a notable appearance with a new product matrix designed for compliance and cost-effectiveness. Its newly unveiled PRO-MAX series offers a fresh power solution tailored to the updated regulatory era.
Liu Zhibo, Executive Vice President of BAK Battery, stated, “Driven by the new national standards, lithium batteries—with inherent advantages in safety, light weight, long cycle life, high energy density, and environmental friendliness—will gradually replace lead-acid batteries as the dominant power source for electric two-wheelers. As the industry enters a high-quality development phase, safety and economy will become key competitive differentiators.”
The centerpiece of BAK’s exhibit was the PRO-MAX 46137 cell. Meeting updated safety requirements with high cost efficiency, the model sets a new benchmark with “true safety and super economy.” Using nano-level composite materials, the cell achieves gravimetric and volumetric energy densities of 190 Wh/kg and 490 Wh/L, respectively. Its large 30Ah capacity supports extended range for light electric vehicles.
Safety is reinforced through a steel shell and controlled venting design, allowing the cell to pass extreme tests including nail penetration, thermal propagation, overcharge, and over-discharge. Economically, its initial installation cost is on par with lead-acid batteries, yet its lifetime cost per kWh is 50% lower. With a 2,000-cycle lifespan, it can serve users reliably for over five years. It also operates across a wide temperature range from -35°C to 65°C, retaining over 90% energy capacity in cold conditions and improving winter range by 130%. Its standardized dimensions also support broad compatibility across battery modules.
The PRO-MAX represents BAK’s second major product launch since the new standards were introduced. Earlier, BAK released the PRO-M series—featuring 18650 and 21700 cells—aimed at self-balancing vehicles. Both series were displayed at the expo. The PRO-M line incorporates heat-resistant cathode materials, specialized coatings, and stable electrolytes to ensure safety and performance across diverse environments, including discharge capability between -30°C and 70°C and over 1,000 cycles.
Beyond the PRO series, BAK also exhibited all-tab and high-capacity cells suited for varied scenarios. The all-tab series, including the powerful 2170-45D for leisure riding and the robust 2170-50D for sand and track use in e-motorcycles and off-road vehicles, delivers premium performance across usage conditions.
With 24 years of technical expertise, BAK is positioned to lead the high-quality advancement of lithium batteries in micro-mobility. According to SPIR, China’s electric two-wheeler market is set to grow from 49.6 million units in 2024 to 58 million by 2026, with lithium-based models expanding from 4.62 million to 6.7 million units. As policy, market, and technology converge, BAK continues its mission to enable zero-carbon lifestyles through safer, more economical, and high-performance power solutions.
