What is the difference between the soft pack and hard pack lithium-ion battery?

What is the difference between the soft pack and hard pack lithium-ion battery?

Lithium batteries are divided into soft packs and hard packs. The difference between soft pack iron lithium batteries and hard pack lithium batteries is mainly in the shell material of the lithium battery. Soft pack lithium batteries do not occur like square and cylindrical lithium batteries. Explosion, the weight is also lighter than other batteries and can be customized according to customers' needs for lithium battery packs.

Lithium battery pack structure introduction:

Lithium battery packs are an alternative to metal lithium batteries that appeared in the past few years. The main components of iron-lithium battery packs are positive and negative electrodes, electrolytes, separators and shells.

The positive electrode is a carbon electrode that can absorb lithium ions. When discharging, the lithium becomes lithium ions, which are separated from the battery's anode and reach the cathode of the lithium-ion battery.

The negative electrode---- material can be embedded in lithium compounds with potential as close as possible to lithium potentials, such as various carbon materials including natural graphite synthesis graphite carbon fibre mesophase ball carbon and metal oxides.

Diaphragm: The use of polyene microporous membranes such as PE, PP or their composite membranes, especially the PP/PE/PP three-layer membrane, has a low melting point and has a high puncture resistance, which plays a role in thermal insurance.

Shell---Use steel or aluminium material, and the cover assembly has the function of explosion-proof and power-off.

The difference between the soft pack and hard pack lithium battery:

Soft-pack lithium battery: The critical materials used in soft-pack lithium batteries—positive electrode materials, harmful electrode materials and separators—are not much different from traditional steel- and aluminium-shell lithium batteries. The most significant difference is the flexible packaging materials (aluminium-plastic composite film), which is the most critical and technically challenging material in soft-pack lithium batteries. Whether in the digital or power application market, soft pack batteries are becoming a vital technical route.

The difference between the two is not only the shell material but also the packaging method. Soft-packed cells are thermally packaged, while metal-shell cells are generally welded (laser welding). The reason why soft-packed cells can be thermally packaged is that they use aluminium-plastic packaging film.

Soft pack lithium battery parameters:

Nominal voltage: 3.7V

Working voltage: 2.4~4.2V

Nominal capacity: 1250mAh

Standard discharge continuous current: 0.2C

Maximum discharge continuous current: 0.5C

Working temperature: charging: 0~45℃

Discharge: -20~60℃

Product size: MAX9.5*35*52mm

The internal resistance of finished product: ≤150mΩ

Over-discharge protection voltage 2.5±0.05V

Hard-pack lithium batteries: There are two types of subdivisions: cylindrical and square. The package structure has its advantages and disadvantages, mainly for different demand places. It is difficult to guarantee the consistency of hard-pack lithium batteries. There are too many models, and it is difficult to unify the process. It is suitable for customized products and is not convenient for the automatic production of lithium battery packs.

Soft-pack lithium batteries are just liquid lithium-ion batteries covered with a polymer shell. The structure is packaged with aluminium-plastic film. In a safety hazard, the soft-pack battery will only bulge and crack at most. The difference between soft-packed lithium batteries and hard-packed lithium batteries mainly refers to the material of the lithium battery pack shell. If there is a package on the outside, it is not easy to see. The battery body must be seen. The weight of the steel shell battery will be higher than that of the same volume—battery focus. Soft-packed batteries are softer than aluminium-shell lithium battery packs and are easily deformed by hand.

Comparison of Lithium Iron Battery Soft Pack and Hard Pack Lithium Batteries:

●Weight

The soft-pack lithium battery is 40% and 20% lighter than the steel-shell lithium battery and the aluminium-shell lithium battery of the same capacity. In terms of weight, soft-pack lithium batteries are much lighter than hard-pack lithium batteries, but the primary weight ratio lies in the weight of the two casings.

●Capacity

Compared with the same steel case battery and aluminium case battery, the soft pack lithium battery is 10% to 15% and 5% to 10% higher, respectively. Although in terms of capacity, the capacity of soft-pack lithium batteries is not much higher than that of hard-pack lithium batteries, there is a particular gap between the two. For fields with high capacity requirements, the application of soft-pack lithium batteries is still higher than that of hard-pack lithium batteries. Lithium battery.

●Shape

Because the internal battery of the soft-pack lithium battery is liquid, its shape can usually have various shapes. This characteristic is more important than the hard-pack lithium battery in the field with specific requirements for the shape of the iron-lithium battery pack—the advantages.

What are the differences between soft-pack lithium iron batteries and aluminium shell batteries?

There are still many technical problems to be solved in the soft-pack lithium battery, especially in the battery cycle expansion index. Most of the battery cell manufacturers have not solved this problem. The degree of automation in the manufacture of aluminium shell batteries is higher than that of soft-pack lithium batteries. Therefore, the impact of human factors on product consistency is reduced to a certain extent, while labour costs are saved.

In terms of manufacturing cost, aluminum-shell battery materials have been completely localized. In contrast, aluminium-plastic film materials for soft-pack lithium batteries still need to be imported, and aluminium-shell batteries have lower technical requirements for battery materials than soft-pack lithium batteries. Therefore, the overall material cost is about 10% lower than that of soft-pack lithium batteries under the same capacity. In addition, the finished product is simple, reliable and cost-effective.

The above is the difference between soft-pack and hard-pack lithium-iron batteries. Juda has been manufacturing lithium-iron-phosphate battery packs for a long time and can customize battery packs for various user requirements according to customer needs. The company has won the trust of many consumers with thoughtful service, low price and high quality.
