EVE Energy Launches Open Source Battery 4.0 AI Series for Commercial EVs

SHENZHEN — As artificial intelligence weaves through the entire lifecycle of lithium batteries — from R&D and manufacturing to quality control, maintenance, and recycling — its core value lies in shortening development cycles, boosting yield rates, reducing energy consumption, ensuring safety, and optimizing lifetime management. Against this technological tide, EVE Energy doubled down on its commercial vehicle strategy during the second annual Commercial Vehicle Battery Technology Day, unveiling the all-new Open Source Battery 4.0 AI Battery Series.

Under the theme of “open source empowerment and AI intelligence”, the company emphasized that sharing battery know-how combined with AI integration is the next frontier. The new open-source battery inherits the philosophy of open-source code — freely sharing technological advancements while embedding artificial intelligence to give each battery the ability to perceive, think, and evolve. “We look forward to joining forces with thousands of partners to drive energy transformation across all transportation scenarios,” an executive noted at the event.

“In the broad context of AI, launching a commercial-vehicle AI battery series is a well-considered strategic choice. Electrochemical energy storage will become the foundational infrastructure for humanity’s AI era. For emerging fields like robotics, we need compact, high-energy-density, ultra-safe batteries. Doubling down on AI is EVE’s product direction, and we also leverage AI to assist battery manufacturing — reducing costs and improving efficiency.”

— Liu Jincheng, Founder of EVE Energy

Liu Jincheng, founder of EVE Energy, delivered the keynote speech at the Technology Day, affirming that the company will continue rolling out batteries designed to support AI evolution. Among them, the Longquan series batteries are described as a crucial catalyst to ignite AI applications across commercial fleets.

Open Source Battery 4.0: The arrival of intelligent energy cells

During the launch event, EVE Energy’s Vice President Jiang Jibing elaborated on the refreshed brand identity of the Open Source Battery series. First introduced in 2024, the “Open Source” name borrows from open-source code — aiming to empower commercial vehicle productivity and “open the source of wealth” for customers. May 9th is now the company’s annual Commercial Vehicle Battery Technology Day.

Last year’s product was Open Source Battery 3.0; this year, version 4.0 debuts with three brand pillars: Open (circular sustainability), Source (going the distance together), and Battery (full energy). The exterior has also undergone a complete upgrade incorporating industrial aesthetics, with both classic and customizable versions to maximize commercial hauling value. EVE is providing both economic and emotional value — combining performance excellence with distinctive design philosophies to meet the needs of commercial vehicle operators, helping customers achieve “greater profits and a better life”.

Having built a solid presence in the commercial vehicle market for years, EVE Energy serves a broad client base. In 2025, its commercial vehicle battery installations ranked among the global top tier, with outstanding performance in buses, heavy-duty trucks, construction machinery, and light commercial vehicles. Through deep service experience, EVE identified three major pain points in the current commercial vehicle sector: unbreakable scenario boundaries, unsustainable operational costs, and unclear full-lifecycle accounting. In response, the company proposed clear solutions: achieving seamless cross-scenario operation, ensuring operational stability, and delivering extreme value from day one.

Core technical leap: from 3.0 to 4.0

Open Source Battery 3.0 featured four core innovations: bottom liquid cooling (30% longer life), full-domain foaming (25% improved structural strength), system stacking (18% weight reduction), and in-situ upgrades (20% higher energy). Now, the new Open Source Battery 4.0 introduces an “energy intelligence agent” that enables the battery to manage itself. Its three key intelligent steps: self-adaptation, self-diagnosis, and self-repair, reducing human intervention to form a closed-loop autonomous operation.

How does the battery achieve these functions? By embedding AI chips inside the battery pack system, the battery gains a "sophisticated brain" that perceives real-time internal changes. Once a potential issue is identified, the system can correct it efficiently — not only managing individual cell behavior but also sensing the overall vehicle condition. With a simple one-touch mobile APP command, data is uploaded to the cloud, enabling the AI battery to foresee road conditions ahead and adjust driving behavior accordingly.

On the cell front, EVE premiered the LM815 cell based on the LMX material system, featuring a capacity of 815Ah, energy density of 215Wh/kg, and cycle life of 4,500 cycles. The LM815 comes in two specifications: 605kWh and 640kWh, with a weight difference of roughly 100kg — catering to different range and payload requirements for heavy commercial vehicles.

EVE Energy's expanding commercial vehicle battery footprint

Penetration of power batteries in the new-energy commercial vehicle sector is rising rapidly, and EVE is a major player. Since first entering the segment in 2016, the company has leveraged comprehensive advantages to become a global Tier-1 supplier for commercial EV batteries. Guided by the principles of faster, lighter, longer, and better, EVE has built core competitiveness and developed a full-chain ecosystem covering upstream raw materials, cells, packs, and recycling.

On the technical side, EVE employs in-house CTB (cell-to-body) technology with frameless lightweight designs that reduce component count, boost usable energy and help the overall vehicle shed weight. For thermal management, proprietary technologies like “bottom liquid cooling” and “3T isothermal” ensure safety and fast-charging performance, effectively addressing range anxiety for commercial fleets.

Production capacity: domestic and global ramp-up

Since the launch of the Open Source Battery series in 2024, EVE has deepened its focus — last year, eight different products were released covering construction machinery, logistics vans, heavy trucks, and buses, precisely matching downstream customer needs. In terms of manufacturing, EVE is advancing a dual-cycle capacity system both at home and abroad. Domestic bases in Huizhou, Jingmen, Shenyang, and elsewhere are scaling rapidly. The Jingmen 60GWh super factory and Huizhou Xikeng zero-carbon plant serve as key production hubs for commercial vehicle batteries. Overseas, Malaysian and Hungarian factories are geared to precisely serve European and ASEAN markets. By the end of this year, EVE’s total capacity will reach 300GWh, with dedicated annual commercial vehicle battery capacity exceeding 50GWh.
