On March 18, 2026, during the "Automobile Battery Night" in Wuhu, Chery Automobile officially showcased its latest technological milestone: the Rhino All-Solid-State Battery. This new cell achieves a staggering energy density of 600 Wh/kg, nearly tripling the capacity of conventional liquid lithium-ion batteries.

Industry analysts note that Chery plans to begin on-vehicle validation in 2027, starting with the Exeed ES8. This advancement signals a decisive shift toward the commercialization of sulfide-based solid-state electrolytes, promising EV ranges exceeding 1,200 km on a single charge.


2. Lithium Prices Rebound Amid Supply Deficit Forecasts for 2026

After a prolonged period of oversupply in 2024 and 2025, the lithium market has staged a significant recovery in March 2026. Spot prices for battery-grade lithium carbonate have stabilized between $16,000 and $24,000 per metric ton, driven by massive demand from stationary Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and data centers.

"The market is transitioning from a glut to a potential deficit of up to 80,000 metric tons by the end of 2026," reported Morgan Stanley analysts this week.

The operational start of Tesla's Texas lithium refinery and several North American hard-rock projects are being closely watched as the Western supply chain seeks to reduce dependency on traditional processing hubs.
