The Netherlands develops solar power and energy storage to build 100% clean energy electric vehicle charging stations.

For those looking for 100% renewable energy, electric vehicle charging stations may not be the perfect clean energy solution because it is uncertain where the electricity comes from - does it come from a thermal power plant? And recently, the Netherlands company combined solar power panels, electric vehicle charging technology, and Tesla energy storage batteries to enable charging stations to achieve 100% clean energy supply day and night.

This plan is one of the "SmartSolarCharging" projects launched by LomboXnet and local partners. At present, Utrecht in the Netherlands has connected 20 charging stations with 200 solar photovoltaic panels and Tesla's 400kW/800kWh energy storage system. They allow electric vehicles to use solar power to replenish energy during the day and charge Tesla batteries at night.

To the performance of the charging station, the plan also cooperated with the French car dealer Renault to exhibit 20 Zoe electric vehicles at the same time. Renault worked with LomboXnet, ElaadNL, and Utrecht City Council in 2016 to contribute to the SmartSolarCharging project. Renault has committed to delivering 150 Zoe all-electric vehicles in 2017. ElaadNL will be responsible for managing infrastructure and charging stations. Standard, LomboXnet is responsible for installing the charging station.

The SmartSolarCharging project has been implemented for ten years to implement a sustainable energy system. Through this project, it is hoped that local solar energy can use V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) technology to supply electric vehicles and grid power. In addition to creating a flexible power storage system, charging stations also be turned into virtual power plants. The battery power can be distributed to the central grid when the station replenishes power or when the electricity bill is too high.

The plan also includes the construction of several charging stations and installing 6,000 solar panels on 20 buildings within a decade. Utrecht mayor Jan van Zanen said that ten years ago, who would have thought that solar energy, electricity systems, and electric vehicles could be connected ingeniously and on a large scale.

Utrecht, the fourth largest city in the Netherlands, has spared no effort in developing renewable energy. In 2015, it invited citizens to participate in the urban energy transition. Through the "City Dialogue", hundreds of people discussed how to help the city achieve its energy goals. Utrecht University has also recently noticed the cooling effect of the water surface and the potential of floating solar power plants. It plans to build a floating solar power plant on the sea off the coast of the Netherlands. Although there are technical challenges such as sea waves, it is still sustainable without occupying the land—a good option for energy.
