On August 6, an exclusive energy storage industry closed-door seminar and client exchange event, co-hosted by Sunwoda Electronic Co., Ltd. (Sunwoda) and EESA, took place in Chengdu. The gathering brought together industry experts, client representatives, and partners from across the entire energy storage value chain to engage in in-depth discussions on sector development trends, large-format cell technology advancements, system innovations, and market application opportunities.

At the event, Sunwoda presented its 588Ah coiled energy storage cells and the matching energy storage systems to key domestic and international clients, offering detailed technical briefings and live demonstrations. The focus was on bridging industry evolution with real customer needs, moving technological innovation from product showcases toward value-based collaboration and tangible project deployment.

The global energy storage industry is now accelerating toward large-scale, high-quality development. With continued growth in renewable energy installations, rising demand for power system flexibility, and the rapid emergence of new load scenarios such as AI data centers, energy storage is transitioning from a supporting component of renewables to a critical infrastructure pillar of the modern power system.

At the same time, the competitive landscape is shifting. Early-stage capacity expansion has given way to a more holistic evaluation of safety, efficiency, cycle life, economics, and mass-delivery capability. Storage products are no longer judged by single parameters but by overall system performance. As Sunwoda Chairman Wang Wei put it, “As the storage industry moves from scale competition to value competition, Sunwoda leverages its platform capabilities to reshape the industry value chain.”

During the closed-door seminar, participants exchanged views on large-format battery technology roadmaps, market trajectories, and application requirements, jointly exploring the next-phase technical directions and growth opportunities for the sector. For Sunwoda, industry trends serve as the starting point for innovation, while customer needs define the ultimate direction for product iteration. The company believes that large-capacity storage technologies must return to real application scenarios and client value—finding direction from market trends, defining products by customer demands, and seeking answers through technological breakthroughs.

In the roundtable session, Dr. Chen Tao, General Manager of Sunwoda’s Energy Storage Business Unit, shared insights on topics including “confidence output,” asset-based operation of storage systems, and global expansion strategies. He noted that the energy storage industry is rapidly evolving from “installed capacity” to “value creation,” and that future competition will hinge on the synergy of technological innovation, asset management, and global presence. Sunwoda, he added, will continue to empower the global energy transition with its full-stack capabilities.

In May 2026, Sunwoda officially commenced mass production of its 588Ah coiled storage cells. This milestone represents a significant addition to the company’s growing portfolio of storage cell products and embodies its ongoing exploration of large-capacity technology pathways. From 72Ah, 85Ah, and 102Ah to 280Ah, 314Ah, and now 588Ah and 684Ah, Sunwoda has systematically built a cell matrix that addresses diverse application needs, while continuously pushing cell technology toward higher capacity, greater integration, enhanced safety, and improved reliability.

Around the 588Ah cell, Sunwoda has developed three system-level product configurations: a 6.26MWh liquid-cooled storage system, a 3.13MWh liquid-cooled system, and a 3.13MWh AC-DC integrated storage system. These three solutions target different application scenarios, leveraging the synergy between large-capacity cells and system integration to deliver differentiated combinations in capacity, integration efficiency, and configuration flexibility—offering richer choices for utility-scale projects and diverse use cases.

For energy storage, cell capacity is only one dimension of product evaluation. The long-term value of a storage system is determined by safety, efficiency, system integration, quality control, delivery reliability, and lifecycle performance. Building on nearly three decades of battery expertise, Sunwoda has established end-to-end capabilities spanning materials, processes, cells, PACK, BMS, EMS, and full system integration—extending cell innovation into comprehensive storage solutions. From cell to system, R&D to manufacturing, and product to application, Sunwoda continues to strengthen its “full-cell strength” and vertically integrated self-development capabilities, supporting large-scale production, stable delivery, and global deployment.

The 588Ah cell is not an isolated specification but a key milestone in Sunwoda’s evolving storage technology framework. Large capacity addresses the need to “store more,” while full-stack capabilities answer how to “store better, operate more stably, and deliver faster.” That is precisely why Sunwoda persistently advances cell technology and expands its reach toward system-level solutions.

Creating value through products and moving technology into real-world applications—for the ever-growing storage market, innovation must ultimately serve actual use cases. Different markets, grid conditions, project scales, and application requirements impose varied demands on capacity configuration, system integration, safety performance, delivery capability, and economics. Starting from a single 588Ah cell to three new-generation storage systems, from technology innovation to system integration, and from product capability to customer application, Sunwoda is steadily building a comprehensive product and solution portfolio for the era of large-capacity storage—responding to needs with technology, creating value through products, and supporting long-term applications with system-level strength.
