BYD Energy Storage and Grenergy have signed Latin America's largest battery supply agreement for 3.5GWh of energy storage systems. The systems will power Phase 6 of the Oasis de Atacama (Elena) project in northern Chile, marking the biggest collaboration between both companies to date.
Under the agreement, BYD will deliver 6,240 units of its MC Cube-T systems featuring high-safety Blade Batteries. These will support the Elena plant's 446 MW solar capacity and 3.5GWh storage. The deal expands their existing partnership to 6.5GWh total contracted storage across the Atacama project.
Oasis de Atacama – among the world's largest storage projects – targets 11GWh storage capacity and 2GW solar power. Grenergy has secured long-term PPAs to ensure the project's financial viability.
Yin Xiaoqiang, BYD Energy Storage GM, stated: "This landmark partnership redefines global energy resilience. Our 3.5GWh BESS facilitates the earth's green transition."
Grenergy CEO David Ruiz de Andrés added: "This record acquisition confirms our storage leadership. Atacama now surpasses installed capacity of countries like the UK and Germany."
