On December 4, 2025, Contemporary Amperex Electric Vessel Co., Ltd. (CAEV), a subsidiary of CATL, unveiled what it claims is the world’s first and only fully integrated "ship-shore-cloud" zero-carbon shipping and smart port solution at Marintec China 2025. The launch marks a key milestone in CATL’s "Era of Comprehensive Growth," extending electrification from land to water and charting a course toward greener, smarter global maritime logistics.
Historically, ship power supply, energy replenishment, and maintenance have been managed by separate providers, leading to coordination gaps, unclear accountability, and operational inefficiencies over a vessel’s 30-year lifespan. High upfront costs, limited charging infrastructure, range concerns, variable water conditions, and fragmented technical standards have further constrained adoption, leaving shipowners caught between affordability, energy access, and economic viability.
CATL’s integrated model aims to resolve these systemic bottlenecks by combining onboard power and intelligence systems, shore-based charging and battery-swap networks, and cloud-based smart management into a single, seamless service. This end-to-end approach addresses the unique demands of maritime operations—including humidity, salt spray, endurance, and high power—which differentiate electric ships from land-based adaptations.
Onboard, the solution incorporates battery systems, propulsion, and intelligent navigation. Ashore, it offers charging infrastructure and a "ship-battery separation" model to alleviate cost and refueling concerns. In the cloud, the "Yunfan" smart platform and "Beichen" navigation system enable remote monitoring, scheduling, and optimization. The result is improved efficiency, lower operating costs, and enhanced safety—making zero-carbon shipping as accessible and reliable as "driving an electric car."
Leveraging its full industrial-chain capabilities, CATL has positioned itself as a driver of green, smart maritime transformation through full lifecycle solutions and ecosystem partnerships. Since entering the sector in 2017 and launching its first electric vessel in 2019, CATL has delivered nearly 900 electric ships and leads the global market for marine batteries. CAEV’s milestones include the "Changjiangsanxia 1," the world’s largest all-electric inland passenger ship; CCS-classed seagoing passenger ship "Yujian 77"; hybrid tug "Qinggang Tug 1"; and the independently operated battery-swap demonstration cargo ship "Jining 6006." Its systems hold certifications from all five major international ship classification societies.
With established advantages in technology, market share, and ecosystem synergy, CATL continues to steer the industry toward zero-carbon shipping. Moving forward, the company plans to deepen innovation and collaboration across the global maritime value chain, supporting broader adoption of systematic, sustainable waterborne transport.
