CATL and NIO have inked a five-year comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement in Hefei, Anhui, deepening their existing partnership. The signing was attended by senior executives from both companies, as well as local government officials, signaling strong institutional support for the collaboration.
The partnership is structured around three core pillars: technology, ecosystem, and market expansion. Both companies aim to accelerate technological advances and business model innovation within the new energy vehicle sector, supporting Hefei’s ambition to become a world-class NEV industrial cluster.
On the technology front, joint development will prioritize long-life battery solutions and battery swap compatibility. The collaboration seeks to integrate multiple technical pathways and accelerate the adoption of new technologies to enhance product competitiveness.
Regarding ecosystem development, the partners will work together to establish battery swap technical standards and promote resource sharing within the swap network. They will also deepen synergies in business models like Battery as a Service (BaaS) to foster an open and shared battery swap ecosystem.
In terms of market strategy, the two giants will strengthen joint branding and promotional efforts both in China and overseas, aiming to boost their global market influence and share for a comprehensive win-win outcome.
This agreement marks a new phase of deep, ecology-wide collaboration between NIO and CATL. Through a long-term, institutionalized cooperation framework, the partners intend to navigate industry transformations jointly and deliver safer, more efficient, and sustainable electric mobility experiences to users.
