Nordics' Largest BESS Project Goes Live in Sweden with Sungrow PowerTitan 2

Nordics' Largest Commissioned BESS Now Operational in Sweden

Ånge, Sweden – The Nordic region’s largest commissioned battery energy storage system (BESS) has entered commercial operation in the Swedish town of Ånge. The 70 MW / 160 MWh facility, developed by Delta Capacity and powered by Sungrow's PowerTitan 2.0 utility-scale solution, marks a significant milestone for energy storage in Northern Europe.

Sungrow, a global front-runner in PV inverters and battery storage, supplied the entire battery system for the project. The PowerTitan 2.0 platform was selected for its proven reliability and high efficiency, with engineering specifically adapted to withstand Sweden’s demanding sub-Arctic climate and extreme seasonal temperature swings.

The Ånge BESS is now delivering grid-balancing services across the volatile Nordic power market, providing fast-response frequency regulation and energy arbitrage capabilities. Its deployment comes as Sweden’s energy storage sector experiences rapid expansion, driven by regulatory shifts that allow batteries to participate in ancillary service markets as revenue-generating assets. According to recent data from SolarPower Europe, Sweden and Finland combined installed over 1 GWh of new battery capacity in 2025 alone.

“Ånge is a great example of how large-scale energy storage is built in practice – fast, at the right scale, and with the right partners like Delta Capacity. Our role is to be a long-term partner and contribute to expanding renewable energy capacity in Sweden.”
       — Samer Nameer, Country Manager Sweden, Sungrow

Fast-Track Delivery for Nordic Energy Transition

The project is owned by a joint venture between WOOD & Company Renewables Sub-Fund and Delta Capacity, which shepherded the development from initial design through to final commissioning. The entire procurement-to-operation cycle was completed in just 15 months – a notably rapid timeline for a storage asset of this scale. Located in bidding zone SE2, the facility directly supports the stability of Sweden’s transmission grid.

Patrik Hes, CEO of Delta Capacity, underscored the urgency of the energy transition: “The Nordic energy transition is moving fast and requires infrastructure that keeps the same pace. Sweden has great renewable resources, but flexibility is missing and that is exactly what Ånge provides. 160 MWh of storage, delivered in 15 months. Delta Capacity's goal is to keep building faster and at a greater scale. The energy transition cannot wait.”

The project was acquired from RES in February 2025. Key partners in the delivery include Stenger & Ibsen Construction, Rejlers, Green Power Monitor, Solvina, and Ellevio, with Centrica Energy handling around-the-clock electricity trading and optimisation for the facility.

Local Expertise, Global Reach

Sungrow Europe maintains a robust footprint across the continent, with 25 local offices, two R&D centres, and 26 warehouses. Its Scandinavian team, headquartered in Stockholm and supported by offices in Malmö, Copenhagen, and Helsinki, provides dedicated service and energy-solution expertise for the region. Among Sungrow's recent Nordic accomplishments are Sweden’s largest solar rooftop installation (14 MW) and Finland’s northernmost solar project (70 MW), further cementing the company's commitment to the region's renewable energy build-out.

About the project: The Ånge BESS is the largest commissioned storage system in the Nordics to date, delivering 160 MWh of flexible capacity. It is owned by a joint venture of WOOD & Company Renewables and Delta Capacity, with Sungrow as the turnkey battery supplier.
